Wishful Wednesday #29

Tarryn Fisher is one of my most favorite writer, she wrote weird, almost always sad... and dark, a couple of days ago, I stumble on her blog, and she posted her review on a book, it's a different kind of review... but then... I want to read the book... ;-)

The Law of Moses by Amy Harmon

If I tell you right up front, right in the beginning that I lost him, it will be easier for you to bear. You will know it’s coming, and it will hurt. But you’ll be able to prepare.

Someone found him in a laundry basket at the Quick Wash, wrapped in a towel, a few hours old and close to death. They called him Baby Moses when they shared his story on the ten o’clock news – the little baby left in a basket at a dingy Laundromat, born to a crack addict and expected to have all sorts of problems. I imagined the crack baby, Moses, having a giant crack that ran down his body, like he’d been broken at birth. I knew that wasn’t what the term meant, but the image stuck in my mind. Maybe the fact that he was broken drew me to him from the start.

It all happened before I was born, and by the time I met Moses and my mom told me all about him, the story was old news and nobody wanted anything to do with him. People love babies, even sick babies. Even crack babies. But babies grow up to be kids, and kids grow up to be teenagers. Nobody wants a messed up teenager.

And Moses was messed up. Moses was a law unto himself. But he was also strange and exotic and beautiful. To be with him would change my life in ways I could never have imagined. Maybe I should have stayed away. Maybe I should have listened. My mother warned me. Even Moses warned me. But I didn’t stay away.

And so begins a story of pain and promise, of heartache and healing, of life and death. A story of before and after, of new beginnings and never-endings. But most of all...a love story.

Wishful Wednesday #28

Me and Indah are going to have a review post together by the end of this month on To Kill a Mockingbird, such a fame book that unfortunately I haven't read... and now the new book, a sequel (or prequel?) is coming up... everybody excited about it... even a blog post of Peri+ said it's one of the highest pre-order book...
So... I will be excited to have this one in my wishful wish list... ;-)

Go Set a Watchman (To Kill a Mockingbird #2) by Harper Lee

Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

Go Set a Watchman features many of the characters from To Kill a Mockingbird some twenty years later. Returning home to Maycomb to visit her father, Jean Louise Finch—Scout—struggles with issues both personal and political, involving Atticus, society, and the small Alabama town that shaped her.

Exploring how the characters from To Kill a Mockingbird are adjusting to the turbulent events transforming mid-1950s America, Go Set a Watchman casts a fascinating new light on Harper Lee’s enduring classic. Moving, funny and compelling, it stands as a magnificent novel in its own right.

A special remark for this week post, a special request from Indah, to me list the updated wish list books... Well... My weakness is... when I wish for something, I tend to buy it my self... that kind of not the idea of this Wishful Wednesday, right? Right? :d
But I guess, one way or another... my wish is come true, right again, right?

Anyway, here are the books I already acquired:
#1 Boxset of Losing It by Cora Carmack - done read
#2 Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell - done read ==> a birthday gift from Indah... yay!
#3 The Deep End of the Sea by Heather Lyons - done read
#4 Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn - done read
#5 The Switch by Lynsay Sands - done read ==> a GA winning also from Indah.... ;-)
#7 Sophie's Choice by William Styrom - not read yet
#8 Atonement by Ian McEwan - not read yet
#10 The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith - done read
#18 These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner - not read yet
#20 Never Never by Tarryn Fisher & Colleen Hoover - done read
#20 Marrow by Tarryn Fisher - currently reading

On second thought, there are many of them still on the list... :D

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

The Graveyard Book
by Neil Gaiman

Paperback, 327 pages
Published September 28th 2010 by HarperCollins

hi, there... meet Bod Owens, Nobody Owens, son of the Owenses...

sebenernya bacanya agak2 gak sengaja... beberapa minggu ini lagi nungguin pesenan buku A Game of Thrones yang blum dateng2... kebetulan banget hari Jumat malem, buku yang lagi dibaca selesai, lalu cari buku ringan yang kira2 selesai dalam 2 hari... baca The Chronicles of Audy: 4R, ehhh... selesai dalam sehari... lhhooo... trus mau baca apa...

aku sama Indah, berencana mau posting bareng review To Kill the Mockingbird... tapi mau mulai, agak ragu2... akhirnya pilihan jatuh ke The Graveyard Book ini, kalau kurang OK, ya... nanti setelah GoT-nya dateng, bisa dipending dulu...

ternyata... iisshh... keren banget!!

dduuuhh... aku... sayang banget si Bod... kasian2 gimana gitu... :D
baru kali ini ketemu buku yang bikin aku merasa kasian dan pengen melindungi tokohnya...
keren banget deh pokoknya...

mau diceritain bukunya?
hhhmmm... aku ambil dari sampulnya aja deh yaa...

It takes a graveyard to raise a child. Nobody Owens, known as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a graveyard, being raised by ghosts, with a guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor the dead. There are adventures in the graveyard for a boy - an ancient Indigo Man, a gateway to the abandoned city of ghouls, the strage and terrible Sleer. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, he will be in danger from the man Jack - who has already killed Bod's family.

ttuuuhh... seru kan?

aku kasih 5 dari 5 Bintang untuk buku ini... :3

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Dante can swim. Ari can't. Dante is articulate and self-assured. Ari has a hard time with words and suffers from self-doubt. Dante gets lost in poetry and art. Ari gets lost in thoughts of his older brother who is in prison. Dante is fair skinned. Ari's features are much darker. It seems that a boy like Dante, with his open and unique perspective on life, would be the last person to break down the walls that Ari has built around himself.

But against all odds, when Ari and Dante meet, they develop a special bond that will teach them the most important truths of their lives, and help define the people they want to be. But there are big hurdles in their way, and only by believing in each other―and the power of their friendship―can Ari and Dante emerge stronger on the other side.

bukunya bisa dipesan di BD dan kalau kalian minat untuk ikutan GA nya... cepet2 cek ke sini... masih sampai tengah malam nanti koq... ;-)
